Display Snags

Yesterday while integrating a bunch of pieces to the HoloKit for a more standalone test I found out that SNIPs would not install on my Raspberry Pi 3B. I have had it on there before so I’m unsure of why it’s not able to do so now. I was growing frustrated with the holokit so I went to see what else there was and I found this. It’s basically a plastic version of the HoloKit and Vufine AR. I don’t know if the view area is good or not, but it has everything set up the same way as HoloKit and Vufine and has the headband which is the hardest part of working with these two cardboard viewers.

I mounted the Raspberry Pi to the HoloKit and mounted 2 cameras down by my eyes. I noticed that the 5″ TFT had some drawbacks in viewing region. It might be easier to use the 7″ display and pare down the display for now. We’ll see. My LattePanda quit booting up or quit registering with the domain or quit allowing hdmi hookup… or all three. The LattePanda is about 400 bucks and I’m not doing that again. I need to find something cheaper and as good. I may have found that with the Raspberry Pi 4 8GB, but I’m holding off. I’d like to find something comparable to the LattePanda but half the price. I really only need wifi, USB ports, HDMI, and either Bluetooth or 3.5mm jack. The rest of the LattePanda is superfluous to what I need. I got it because it had the Android integration and it was the most powerful micropc I could find 2 years ago.

So, while I was making progress with the LattePanda I have now moved backwards. I will have to use my laptop and Mac to run my display until I can get a replacement SBC. I’m unsure of what I’ll use. I don’t want to spend more than 150 on something but we’ll see. I’ve got about a month to figure it out before the new headsets come in. Until then, maybe the LattePanda will work again.

And as I typed that my LattePanda decided to start working. I think there’s an issue where if it gets shut down incorrectly it takes a while to fix itself and since the monitor doesn’t show up you just don’t know. So I’ll set up my LattePanda with the HoloKit for now.

I’ll take pics and get that video edited and uploaded. Now I’m just waiting on three new smaller cameras.
